Signing in, and the South African trading day
One address covers every FxPro account you hold: FxPro Direct, in a browser tab or in the FxPro app. MT4, MT5, cTrader, FxPro Edge — all of them are added, funded and reset from that one portal.
| On the South African clock | SAST (UTC+2, no seasonal change) |
|---|---|
| Currency market opens (Sunday) | ~23:00 |
| London session begins | ~09:00–10:00 |
| London and New York overlap | ~15:00–19:00 |
| Currency market closes (Saturday) | ~00:00 |
- Open FxPro Direct. The same portal in a browser and in the app — so a laptop without power is not a locked door. Sign in from the phone on mobile data and the position is still there.
- Email address first, then the password. In the app the password can be skipped entirely: it will sign you in with a one-time code instead, according to FxPro.
- Forgotten password? Use the reset on the sign-in form. It goes to the address you registered with — if that mailbox is one you no longer read, fix it before you need it at 15:00 on a busy Friday.
$100 — and what your bank actually debits
According to FxPro the minimum first deposit is $100 by card or bank wire, with e‑wallet minimums set separately. The figure is a dollar figure. Funding it from a rand card or a rand bank account means a conversion happens on your side of the transaction, so the rand amount that leaves your account is decided by your bank’s rate on the day and by whatever cross-border charge that bank applies. FxPro adds no deposit fee of its own, and the money lands first in the FxPro Wallet before you move it to a trading account.
| Method | Minimum | Usually credited |
|---|---|---|
| Bank card | $100 | ~10 minutes |
| PayPal · Skrill · Neteller | varies → | same day |
| Bank wire (international) | $100 | 3–5 business days |
Five platforms — two of them need no install
Every one of them is added from the same portal: sign in to FxPro Direct and pick. The choice matters more here than in most markets, because two of the five run without installing anything on a desktop that may not have power this evening: FxPro Edge opens in a browser tab, and the FxPro app for iOS and Android (Google Play 4.5★, 10M+ installs; App Store 4.4★, per store listings) carries the MT4 and MT5 side in a pocket.
The long-serving terminal, desktop and mobile; Standard accounts start at 1.2-pip spreads.
The wider instrument range — FxPro’s broadest market coverage.
Depth-of-market pricing on raw spreads plus the $3.50 per-lot commission.
FxPro’s own webtrader: a browser tab, nothing downloaded, nothing to reinstall after a reboot.
Trade the FxPro account on TradingView’s charts.
A practical South African test when you choose: can you carry on from a phone if the desktop goes dark mid-session? Edge and the app both answer yes; a desktop-only MT4 install answers no. Demo accounts are available on four of the five — TradingView is the exception.
Opening an account with South African documents
Four steps, all of them inside the portal. The step that stalls people is the second one, so it is worth having the paperwork ready before you start rather than hunting for a municipal account at midnight.
- Register in FxPro Direct with an email address you actually read.
- Verify identity and address. Proof of who you are is normally the smart ID card or the older green barcoded ID book; a passport serves the same purpose. Proof of where you live is usually a recent municipal account or a bank statement carrying your name and street address. The portal states the accepted list as you upload — treat that list, not this page, as the authority.
- Choose the account type. Standard (from 1.2 pips, no commission) or Raw+ (from 0.0 plus $3.50 per lot per side). A swap-free version exists, according to FxPro.
- Fund it from $100 and trade. Card, wire or e‑wallet — see the deposit sheet for what that costs leaving a rand account.
Getting money back to a South African bank
One rule carries most of the answer: money returns by the route it arrived on. Card in, card out; wire in, wire back to that account. FxPro states it charges nothing in either direction — but the return trip crosses a border, so your own bank’s conversion and cross-border charge apply again, and the rand credited will not be an exact mirror of the rand debited.
| Method | Withdrawal usually takes |
|---|---|
| PayPal · Skrill · Neteller | same day |
| Bank card | ~1 business day |
| Bank wire (international) | 3–5 business days |
What a trade costs
Two account types, two places the cost sits: inside the spread, or in a separate commission. Both figures below are FxPro’s published terms.
- Commission $0
- Cost sits in the spread
- Commission $3.50 /lot/side
- Cost sits in the commission
cTrader follows the same raw-spread pricing: from 0.0 pips plus $3.50 per lot per side. “From” figures are minimums rather than averages — the live spread moves with conditions, and the widest moments of the South African day are the thin hours before London wakes, not the busy overlap. Overnight positions accrue swap (swap-free versions are available), an inactivity fee applies after six months, and leverage runs up to 1:200 depending on account and eligibility, according to FxPro.
Where the money sits: client funds are held in segregated accounts, apart from the company’s own, with negative balance protection — an account cannot go below zero, according to FxPro.
